Striped sweater dresses are the perfect item to pair with this ‘over the knee boot’ trend I keep harping about. I started wearing sweater dresses when I moved from Los Angeles to Montreal to be with my fiancée, now my amazing husband. My wardrobe had totally adjusted to the California lifestyle while I was living there for most of my 20’s, but soon enough my bohemian ensembles turned Siberian to deal with the frigid Canadian cold. It’s hard to stay chic when the temperature drops to zero degrees. Jeans, leather leggings, wool and cashmere sweaters, boots, hats, and thick jackets are worn on repeat for 4 straight months. It gets boring… So I decided to revive my wardrobe and throw the sweater dress into the mix.
When the leaves just begin to fall, you can get away with bare legs with a sweater dress like this Isabel Marant from MatchesFashion.com. But when the chilly evenings arrive, just cover up in a longer coat, like this great navy wrap one from JOSEPH. I am a big fan of wearing coats just over the shoulders. I call it the “editor look” because of all the fashion editors wearing their jackets over their shoulders as they dash from one show to the next during the never ending days of Fashion Week. Who doesn’t like being prepared, right?
In the winter, I like to pair a good tight under my sweater dress and there’s nothing better than my friend Caroline Fleming’s line, Beautiful Legs or Wolford. Staying warm and comfortable has truly never looked so chic.
