Morocco is having a moment.
I just recently went to Marrakech to celebrate a friend’s 40th Birthday and channel my inner Jasmine. I cannot believe how much I felt at one with the exotic setting. A lot had to do with the environment I was staying in, the incredible riad El Fenn, where all the weekend’s festivities took place. I could not get enough of the lush courtyards with lemon trees, tranquil pools in hidden corners, bright turquoise and orange walls, a stunning rooftop terrace overlooking the Kotubia, and the most welcoming staff.
When packing for the trip I was excited to take my most colorful summer pieces. Matthew Williamson was a must as it ticked all the right boxes: bright, embroidered, light chiffon for the warm glamorous evening soirées. The saffron chiffon twisted collar gown I chose from his Spring/Summer ’14 collection was a perfect choice against the colors at El Fenn and the Marrakech light at dusk. I think long dresses are hard to find, this one can work for a wedding I have this summer or a black tie gala event, switch up the accessories and change the hair and makeup to make the look feel different.
The scalloped-pink lace Miguelina dress I actually brought with me to wear over a swimsuit during the day but with a simple slip underneath it worked perfect for one of the nights. I paired the dress with my Aquazurra sandals which I adore.
For the day I wore a mix of vintage cotton dresses and accessories, with some local finds I picked up from a gem of a souk I found in the market, Maison du Kaftan.
