Magical Maldives Diary: Part 1

In April, my family went on one of the most magical trips to the Maldives staying at The Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru. Everything about this vacation was perfect…the incredibly high level of service, luxurious exclusivity and a landscape of picturesque dreams.

The Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru is the quintessential holiday destination to experience pristine turquoise water that immediately relaxes you with just one swim in it and white powdered sand that melts between your toes. This private coral island, located in the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere reserve has a breathtaking topography with lush jungle at the center and outlined by beautiful beaches with shallow crystal blue waters and a sandbar that walks you into the middle of the magnificent ocean.

With a kids club full of activities from pizza and jewelry making, treasure hunts, coral reef building and educational time in the Marine Discovery Center, children are happy to leave their parents at the beach for some much needed R&R.

Settling into our chairs on the beach felt like we were in heaven, the colors of the sea are just so stunning that it lures you in, I have never before spent so much time in the ocean.  I have a fear of sharks and unknown sea creatures and even though every night on the other side of the island they do a shark feeding with quite large lemon sharks – I feel relaxed in the water because it is so crystal clear and shallow there are no surprises.

One afternoon we experienced the ultimate in luxury by booking the Four Seasons private yacht out for a day of adventure that included: dolphin spotting, coral reef snorkeling and lunch on our own remote private island.

Anchoring in the middle of spectacular reefs we snorkeled as a family with a guide to see bright colored fish (the children were thrilled to see Nemo!) and turtles. We then got back on our yacht to sail, to our own private island for lunch, where we jumped off the boat and swam through the brightest turquoise water I have ever seen. There, three chefs prepared an amazing gourmet lunch for our family. After our delicious feast we relaxed on the uninhabited island before cruising back to the resort. It truly was a magical day!

Our beach villa was incredibly spacious and came equipped with all of the top amenities a private pool and chaises, a hammock, beach and ocean access, beach toys for the children and bicycles for everyone in all sizes just outside our door to ride around the island.
